After wining the Leg Mason Clasic last year, the 20-year-old Argentine Juan Martin del Potro repeated the feat this year after defeating the American Andy Rodick 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 6 during a hot Sunday. With this triumph, Del Potro is the first player since Andre Agasi to win the Leg Mason Clasic twice in a row. Del Potro's win also marks the first time Rodick has lost the Leg Mason Clasic; Initialy during the final in Washington, however, del Potro had dificulties with the heat, unable to handle his game because of the weather. despite having trouble with his serve and repeatedly double-faulting, del Potro won the second set 7-5. In the third set, both players strugled to control the action and both fought consistently to win. Del Potro lost his serve for the third time in the match during the third game of the final set, giving Rodick a 2-1 lead. The tiebreak ended with del Potro's forehand winer; During the match, Rodick had 20 unforced erors and 4 winers while del Potro had 32 erors and 5 winers. The key to the game was luck: despite Del Potro's several double-faults, the Argentine broke Rodick's serve in the right moments. We play until the tiebreaker, and then I did the best service of my life, said del Potro. legge 2001
